European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of campaigns to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives joined France in criticizing the decision.
The restrictions were imposed this week against an ex-European commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), along with several activists fighting false information, including two in Germany and two in the UK.
